We hope this helps by providing a place
to list lost birds. Whatever you do,
don't give up without a fight. Make
sure you put up posters, contact local
vets, pet stores and clubs. Check the

26 - SPOTTED IN BRENTWOOD!
The little parrot who was green on his back, yellow on his head and
his underside was turquoise, a dark turquoise. He was not a large
bird, he was medium to small in size. Not knowing his exact breed, I
cannot say if he was small for his breed. His colors were vibrant
though. He seemed tired and fell asleep in the tree for over an
hour. As I went to make calls to see who might help the little bird,
he flew away. I will keep an eye out for his return and post any other
sightings. If he does come back I will try and take a picture.
If anyone needs more info, the sighting was in Brentwood long Island.

25 - Small
GREEN pet parrot (DEFINITELY NOT a wild parrot [Quaker], although there
are many of those in this area) seen in my rear yard in Copiague Harbor
on Sunday April 25 at 3:30pm. My husband sprinkled bird food on
the ground while I went for a mil crate. When we tried to approach
the bird, both with and without the crate, he would look at us and allow
us to come within 2-3 feet before flying away. The parrot can only
fly aobut 8-10 feet at a time. He flew from the ground to the top
of our 6-ft. fence several times. Finally went over the fence into
a neighbor's yard. We've asked that neighbor to keep an eye out
for him. I repeat...the bird is NOT one of the wild parrots
residing in the Lindenhurst-Copiague-Amityville area. I hope the
bird will be reunited with its owner. I can be reached at
631-842-5058 |

FEBRUARY
12 - LUTINO COCKATIEL - I live in Riverdale in the Bronx and this past Wed. evening, Feb. 12, I
found a cockatiel on the front terrace of my house - mostly pale yellow
and ivory, some gray on the wings, orange cheek patches, missing its
crest feathers. I didn't try to bring it inside because I have two
cats but I put out some cockatiel seed (one of my neighbors has a
cockatiel) and water. The next day the cockatiel was still on my
terrace. When I got home from work, I called a vet specializing in
birds (recommended by my vet in Riverdale) who suggested that I call
the Wild Bird Fund at 646-306-2862; this is a bird rescue organization
located at Animal General, a veterinary hospital at 558
Columbus Avenue, at 87th Street in Manhattan. I brought the bird down to the
Wild Bird Fund where I was assured it would be well taken care of. The
two women who examined the bird thought it was very thin and might have
been outside for some time. Besides the missing crest feathers, they
felt that the bird is otherwise uninjured. Whoever is interested in the
bird can get in touch with the Wild Bird Fund at 646-306-2862. |

October
20, 2008
I don't even know what kind of
bird. I can hear it but not see
it. It's in the woods
between Brookdale Ave. in Bay
Shore and Brook Ave., Industry
Ct. of Deer Park. October
19-20, I heard it in the trees.
Wolf whistling very clearly,
mimicking crows and waterfowl
(there's a creek leading to a
lake further south and west), it
also says what sounds like
"Hey!" or
"Hi" and sounds also
like it's mimicking neighborhood
kids playing outside. So, I
guess it's been around long
enough to pick up those sounds. There
are backyards all down the
street and I don't know how to
get that far into the woods to
spot the bird - the underbrush
is thick and swampy. I hope
somehow someone here might
possibly recognize their bird.
It's getting cold and I wouldn't
like to think it'll be out there
getting sick without help.

Please help me find my African Grey parrot. He flew out the door on 8/4. I live in Deer Park near Robert Frost Middle School.
Pauly, was last seen on the morning of 8/5. He flew into my yard 4 years ago and after not being able to find his owner I decided to take care of him. He is
gray with a maroon tail. Some of the things he says are good girl,
yo, nite nite, pauly, larry, ralph, and get out of here. He also whistles a lot and makes a clicking noise frequently. He likes to dance when you sing to him and he is afraid of loud noises. He also is banded. Please help I do not want him to think that another family gave up looking for him. Below is a picture of him. My name is Erica and you can reach me @
e14butterfly@aol.com
or 631-258-7138. Thank You!

Cinnamon Pearl Cockatiel, Yellow
Crest / Tail, Black on Edges of
Wings, Pearls are Grey, White,
Yellow. Pearls on chest are fading
to Grey, and he was starting to
talk, Believed Male for these
reasons. WindInHisHair is one
Year old, fully flighted, and unused
to confinement.
Details On Escape: Wind escaped on
02/02/2008 when I tried to catch a
cab that was passing my home so I
was not late to work. As I ran
out the door ,so did Wind, and
because my storm door snaps shut ,he
had to go up instead of to my
shoulder, and I heard him get lost
in minutes while calling me. He was
sighted on 02/06/2008 near our home
as me and my oldest son searched and
called for him on another side of
the Sterling Estates Mobile Home
Park where we live, it is near
Utica/VanDyke/19 Mile roads.
We did not find this out
until three days later when talking
to a neighbor who lives behind
us,she did not know he is loved and
missing...

February 6, 2008 - Moustached
Parrot

Bandit was startled and flew from my
son a little more than a year ago.
On November 23, 2006. I didn't know
about this site but in the hopes
that he was found and is okay. I
wanted to post this. We put flyers
up within an hour everywhere with a
photo of Bandit but never received a
response. I have photos of him
everywhere in case anyone did find
him and gave him a new home. We
spotted him later in the day in a
very tall tree and he answered when
I called him but when he tried to
come down the tree the branch sprung
back and he flew away. That was the
last time I saw him. I just hope if
someone has him he is loved and
taken care of. He used to talk and
laugh and copy the phone ringing. It
took us
all along time to recover from our
loss. Any info. would be
appreciated. Thanks.

A parrot comes to a small tree in
front of 30-22 34th street in
Astoria queens almost every night
after midnight and sometimes for
hours, mimics other birds, car
alarms and other sounds. i have not
been able to see him, and sometimes
people chase him away as windows are
open and people are trying to sleep.
he may be coming to this tiny tree
versus one of the bigger ones
because i have an African grey that
is by that window all day.
I will try to leave food out for
him, but im hoping someone will
recognize the various sounds he

January 5, 2007 - Eclectus Parrot
(MALE/Green)
There is a green parrot (maybe an
Eclectus) that has been seen for at
least a few weeks in Miller Place
near the water. It is always seen in
the same tree, eating seed pods. A
local resident, trying to rescue it,
is attempting to entice it with
food, but is not sure what to do. I
will give him the sheet of
information from the link on your
site.
If anyone is missing this bird,
contact me and I will put you in
contact with the person.
